I’m a male but I enjoyed it very much.
The chapters SEX and UNDERWEAR are so intense to make me blush, though.
My wife of course enjoyed reading it (in Satomi Matsumaru’s translation).
My favorite chapter is FRIENDSHIP.
I agree with you that friends of the opposite sex bring a different perspective.
However, we can hardly expect a warm hug from a friend or even from a family member in Japan.
So I think I need some friends from other countries to cultivate friendships in different ways.
The essays are written in plain English and your narration on the accompanying CD is easy to listen to.
The key phrases and Talking Points appended to each chapter are also very useful.
I am willing to strongly recommend this attractive book to English-learning friends of mine, whether female or male!
