My seminar last Friday for international schools in Japan

November 28th, 2010 → 1:01 pm @ Caroline Pover // No Comments

I gave a marketing seminar on Friday night, for people in the international school community in Japan. It was for 90 minutes, with 30 minutes for Q&A, on print media, online media, communities of people, monitoring results, and time-planning. I really enjoyed the seminar, and I received some very nice emails from people afterward so it is nice to know that the seminar was helpful for them.

I love my work—I wake up in the morning and feel very grateful to live the professional life that I do, and be able to share all that with people like the  educators I shared it with on Friday.

I was interviewed today by Canadian documentary-makers, about life as a foreign woman in Japan

November 25th, 2010 → 11:42 pm @ Caroline Pover // No Comments

Today I was interviewed by Freyburg Media—Canadian filmmakers who are making a documentary about expatriate women in Japan. I always enjoy the opportunity to tell people why I love living in Japan! Topics covered included my background, the story of how I came to Japan, things I love about life here, issues related to being a Western woman, challenges I’ve overcome, differences between the UK and Japan, advice for newcomers, connecting with Japanese women, my relationships with Japanese people in general, the best things that I’ve experienced, the dating scene, and future plans.

I met the advisors to the Dalai Lama last week.

November 23rd, 2010 → 11:13 pm @ Caroline Pover // No Comments

Can you believe that the four advisors to the Dalai Lama had dinner at my local Italian restaurant last Thursday? I popped in for a salad and a hot chocolate Thursday night to see the restaurant was set up for about 14 people, and right in the middle were four men in robes. They had the most beautiful smiles, and I have to admit that one of them was rather attractive (is that sacrilege?). They were the four “High Lamas”—the four men who will choose the next Dalai Lama, and apparently they will never be in a room together again.

They seemed warm and kind, and each said hello to me, and one of them tied one of those woven bracelets around my left wrist. It was very exciting!
